After Migrations announced that the appointment system to process the passport will be eliminated in the third week of May, now the superintendent of the entity, Jorge Fernández Campos, reported that 88,000 passports were received yesterday that will help reduce the waiting time for obtaining of the document.

Yesterday we received 88,000 passports and we are normally attending duly verified emergency cases and for May we are beginning our white march in order to attend to all citizens who have previously paid for their passport ticket”, said today the superintendent of Migrations for Canal N.

This is the second advance sent by the contracted provider this year. migrations expect more shipments of passports for May and June to complete the 700 thousand purchased.

According to estimates of the owner of migrationsto date there are approximately 100 thousand passports pending delivery that will be covered with the advance received.

And for this reason, in statements, he advanced what the attention will be like during the white march without appointments.

  • Third week of May: those people who paid the right to passport in 2018.
  • Fourth week of May: those who have paid in 2019
  • June: those who paid in 2020.

However, he clarified that to date the appointments scheduled via the web will continue to be attended along with the emergency procedure in case of trips within 48 hours (at the headquarters in Breña) and 24 hours (Jorge Chávez airport), for study, work or death of a family member.

The case

In the last days, dozens of people were harmed because Migrations had delays in the delivery of passportswhich prevented them from boarding their flights abroad, for which, in some cases, they had to pay a penalty to the airline and reschedule their trip.

The Comptroller revealed that, as a result of the control of the National Migration Superintendence, it was detected that said entity did not have a sufficient stock of electronic passports to supply the demand of the 77,589 people who paid (until February 8, 2022) to obtain this document.

How to obtain the electronic passport?

You can process the passport in person at the offices of the National Superintendence of migrations nationwide and at the MAC Ventanilla, MAC Lima Este, MAC Callao and MAC Cajamarca centers, by appointment. The document is valid for 5 years.

People with disabilities can attend their appointment with a companion if needed.

The requirements are:

DNI in good condition and without electoral fines.
