In an act for the closing of the Provincial Congress of Health, Nicolás Kreplak announced together with Axel Kicillof and Daniel Gollán that the Buenos Aires government will advance with the reform of the health system promoted by Cristina Kirchner to create the Integrated National Health System.

“It is time to transform things and we are in a hurry because it is now, that we have the governor, that we have the Vice President, that He asks us to create the National Integrated Health System, and to whom we owe the responsibility of carrying it out”Kreplak said to the applause of all those present.

And he added: “When Cristina raises this, which is to pick up an old discussion of Perón, one of the disappeared of the dictatorship, because it was one of the things that was destroyed, the dream of rejoin the social security that union workers represent with the public sector to ensure equitable access to health. In the pandemic we have achieved it and give equity in health in this terrible time. Now it’s our responsibility to carry on.”

Daniel Gollan, who held the position at the beginning of Kicillof’s administration and is now a national deputy, spoke before the Minister of Health: “The reform of the health system is going to be a reality in Argentina”sentenced.

During his speech, Governor Axel Kicillof He reiterated his criticism of the state in which he received the health system with which he had to face the pandemic. “We promised that one of the priorities of this government was going to be to get the health system back on its feet, and we knew it was in tatters,” he said.

In that sense, He denounced that neoliberalism “covertly” privatized public services such as health, education and security by “defunding” them. “Given the lack of resources, there is a kind of almost spontaneous privatization process, businesses begin to emerge due to the lack of investment. The system goes down. This perverse policy begins with underfunding and covertly privatizing and then they come to say that the public sector does not work”, he said.

In addition, Kicillof remembered the day when the vice president proposed to “rethink” the health system to go to one “more integrated between the three subsystems: public, social works and private or prepaid”. “They said ‘now they come for everything’. It is regarding taking from those who have more to give to those who lack everything. It is a matter of making the system more efficient and equal”, she expressed.

“The health system must necessarily be for all the people. In other words, we need an accurate diagnosis, communicate it, explain what is happening and why it is happening. When one is going to transform something, there is necessarily resistance because things don’t go the way they do because they do. If it continues to go wrong, it is because there are interests that support it. When there is resistance, you have to fight,” he insisted.

The Provincial Health Council, which brings together the 135 secretaries of health, met following 6 years (4 of the previous government and 2 of the pandemic) and agreed on the executive table that elected Jonatan Konfino, secretary of health of Quilmes, as executive secretary. This space represents the entire Buenos Aires public health system in 24 secretaries.
