Valve quietly updates dock capabilities

Valve has yet to give a specific date for the arrival of the Steam Deck docking station and new hardware changes that have come a few weeks before its alleged launch offer us some additional surprises.

Without telling anyone, Valve came to update the docking station of its Steam Deck (following having however warned that changes were possible before the release) to add some welcome new features. At present, we are still waiting for the station since its release is scheduled according to Valve for the “end of spring”.

Improved connectivity

As we report The Vergea technical specifications update that appeared on February 22 on the website dedicated to the machine allows us to see the addition of 3 USB-A 3.1 ports instead of the 2 USB-A 2.0 ports and the single USB-A 3.1 port promised at the start. Three days later, Valve also updated the station’s Ethernet port, which now becomes a Gigabit Ethernet port capable of accommodating faster speeds.

These new 3.1 ports have higher transfer speeds and will allow a better experience with the peripherals used, especially with regard to external hard drives which should be used regularly in this type of configuration. The same goes for the station’s Ethernet port, which is now able to accommodate speeds of up to 1 Gb/s compared to 100 Mb/s previously, and which will, among other things, make it more future-proof.

A Switch dock on steroids

Sold separately, this station will allow anyone with a Steam Deck to play their favorite games on a monitor or even on a TV while charging it, but also to use it as a full-fledged machine running under Linux.

Valve probably wants to position its portable console as a credible alternative to any current PC by giving its dock a little polish just before its presumed release and thus hopes to delight fans who wanted to acquire it.

Neither the precise release date nor the price have yet been mentioned by Valve and pre-orders for the station have not yet been opened. But there are already alternatives available in the market. As for the console, the official site in French evokes possible orders from October 2022 “or later ».
