Attention is focused on why a Brazilian boy born with two genitals underwent surgery to remove the larger of the two.
On the 20th, foreign media such as The Sun and Mirror reported the case of ‘Diphallia’ published in the Journal of Pediatric Urology.
A 2-year-old boy from São Paulo, Brazil, reported in the journal, was born with two genitals. Of the two, the left penis was larger than the right one, so the doctor planned to remove the right, leaving the left one.
However, a preoperative examination revealed that he might only urinate through his small right genitals. In the case of the left, it is because the urethra is very narrow for urine to pass.
In the end, the doctor removed the left genitals, focusing on function, not size. Although the operation was successful, it is not certain whether an erection will be successful because half of the cavernous tissue involved in erection has disappeared.
On the other hand, it is known that the penis is a rare genetic disease that affects one in five million people.
The media explained, “I can lead a normal sex life and have children. However, it is appropriate to remove one because there is a possibility of death from infection and dysfunction of the kidney and colon system.”
