The flagship saga of Volition studios is getting a facelift with an official reboot in August 2021. Soberly titled Saints Row, this open-world action-adventure game traces the origins and future of the craziest gang in North America. After having quickly presented its concept and its specificities, this GTA-like dwells on its customization options… in all its forms.

The style empire

The Saints Row franchise has always bent over backwards to offer players the most extensive and rich customization options possible, even if it means often falling into the big 100% assumed anything. Saints Row version 2022 pushes this playful dimension to its climax by aiming for neither more nor less than “ultimate freedom”. Whether in terms of weapons, clothing, avatars, gang members and vehicles, the title of Volition is teeming with creativity in order to let those of the main interested parties speak… the players.

The adventure begins with the creation of an avatar. If it is possible to start from a preset to make your life easier, Saints Row strongly invites you to make the character editor yours and to let go in order to create a Big Boss in your image (or not for that matter). Height, weight, morphology, face, skin, eyes, hair, teeth, prosthesis and of course gender… almost everything is customizable. Note that players are not forced to choose between a man and a woman, and can decide to give life to a hero without a determined gender.

The style of your character, and your crew by extension, also depends on the outfits you dare to put on and there is, according to Volition studios, something for everyone. Artists have had a field day and push sartorial eccentricities to the last limits of (good) taste. Everything is allowed or almost provided you dare to strut around in the streets of Santo Ileso. Between the hundreds (or more) of pants, tops, headgear, shoes, and even underwear, you will have to make a choice. Finally, a voice and various celebrations complete this personal and necessarily improbable desired style.

Gaz, Guns & Home

Volition studios do not seem to stop there and drive the point home by integrating more and more customization options for everything related to weapons, vehicles and your habitat. To cross the districts of Santo Ileso at full speed, vehicles of all kinds (cars, motorcycles, boats, jet skis, etc.) are available for sale and highly customizable to the point of recalling the great times of the Need for Speed franchise. We should also not forget the gameplay options with several “signature” abilities to evade law enforcement and this is just one example among many others.

Gunsmithing is not to be outdone and lets the imagination of the “pad guerrillas” make the powder speak with art and manner. DDozens of firearms, but not only, enrich the arsenal of your gang, an arsenal to modify to gain power and complete your playful approach to Saints Row. It is indeed possible to change elements of weapons, to alternate between different materials and colors and even unlock “reference” styles… like El Mariachi for Antonio Banderas fans.

All that remains is to accommodate all these little people, your clothes, your vehicles and your weapons. To do this, Volition studios offer you the opportunity to build and then decorate a headquarters (or HQ) that suits you. This place, which symbolizes your rise and your control over the city, allows you to manage your newly created crime empire, to buy concessions (14 in total) to launch various businesses, and to manage your gang members. In a word as in a hashtag, #BeYourOwnBoss.

Choose your destiny with Saints Row on August 23, 2022 on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
