As a result of analyzing the medical treatment trends for malnutrition and obesity in the last 5 years, the number of undernourished patients in 2021 was 335,441, an increase of 123.9% from 149,791 in 2017, and the number of obese patients in 2021 was 31,170. This is an increase of 101.6% compared to 2017.
First, as a result of analyzing the trend of malnutrition treatment, △the number of male patients in 2021 was 81,058, an 113.6% increase from 37,943 in 2017, △the number of female patients was 254,383, compared to 111,848 in 2017. It increased by 127.4%.

Among nutritional deficiencies in 2021, the most frequently treated deficiency was vitamin D deficiency (247,077 people), vitamin A deficiency (36,673 people), and other nutritional deficiencies (18,256 people).
As a result of analyzing the number of undernourished sex patients in 2021, the number of vitamin D deficient patients was 190,625 for women, 3.5 times that of 55,452 men.
Among the top 10 nutritional deficiencies in 2021, the highest proportion of female patients was dietary calcium deficiency, with 8,046 females and 1,043 males 7.7 times. On the other hand, thiamine deficiency was found in 925 males, 2.1 times that of 444 females.
Vitamin D is a hormone that influences the metabolism of calcium and phosphorus. If vitamin D is insufficient, the concentration of calcium and phosphorus in the blood does not increase sufficiently, so that it cannot be accumulated in the bones, so it is necessary to be careful because the skeleton is weakened. In order to prevent vitamin D deficiency, it is recommended to get sunlight through appropriate outdoor activities along with a balanced diet.
In addition, beriberi can occur when thiamine, which is vitamin B1, is insufficient, and eating mainly white rice and drinking too much can cause thiamine deficiency. To prevent this, it is recommended to consume brown rice and other grains and refrain from excessive drinking.
As a result of analyzing the number of obese patients in the past five years, the number of obese patients in 2021 was 9,676 males, an increase of 241.7% from 2,832 in 2017, and 24,944 females in 2021, 12,134 in 2017. It increased by 68.9% compared to people.

The age group that received the most treatment for obesity in 2021 was 6,666 people in their 30s, followed by 6,504 people in their 40s and 4,457 people in their teens.
Meanwhile, according to the ‘2020 Community Health Survey’ released by the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC), 21.5% of those who answered that “the consumption of instant food has increased” and “the intake of delivery food has increased” in relation to the changes in daily life due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
