The Faculty of Medical Sciences of the National University of La Plata was involved in another controversy following a new resignation of a professor was known in the last few hours.
The subject of face-to-face classes was the core of the issue and the teacher made his decision known through a letter in which he charged with harsh criticism of the authorities.
This is Prof. Marcelo Carlos Calí, who worked in the Internal Medicine Chair and some time ago received a sanction related to the dictation of face-to-face classes. In the letter, addressed to the recently re-elected dean Juan Ángel Basualdo, Calí was dispatched with harsh questions.
There he details that “After evaluating the events that occurred in which I am accused of serious misconduct for having gone to teach face-to-face classes at a teaching hospital, I want to clarify that the event occurred in mid-2021, when the stadiums, bars, and cinemas were already open. , family parties, etc. That it occurred at a time with very low community circulation of the virus and with at least one or two doses of vaccines applied. I will not expand on the criteria and care used because they have already been exposed in the administrative summary who decided to start me”.
And it points directly to Basualdo: “Not only will I continue to disagree with you from every point of view (scientific, political, etc.), but far from any procedural protocol, I have decided to present my indeclinable resignation to the position of head of practical work of the F. Poco Internal Medicine Chair. It matters since they have decided on my dismissal. I want to be the one who resigns and, at least, allow me to take this leave”.
“I have held my position for 31 years with pride, suitability, credibility, professionalism and above all with a dedication and enthusiasm recognized not only by my peers, but also by a large part of the student body. I want to highlight the courageous behavior of Dr. Fernando Curcio (incumbent of the Chair of Internal Medicine F), when following suspending me in a careless manner and outside of any legal framework, he stopped answering the phone without being able to clarify what happened. What’s more, I had to call him from a borrowed cell phone to get in touch with him. My call generated surprise, hesitation and childish responses, showing a manifest disrespect that conspicuously threw overboard the years shared as partners and colleagues, “he shot.
And he refers to the current controversy regarding attendance: “That to date the Faculty of Medicine that you command is closed to students, no more than proving me right and convincing me every day that I have been the object of a great injustice”
“I no longer care to stop belonging to the Staff of professionals of that faculty, since the faculty is not the same, and the actors are not the same, and educational excellence is not the same and above all the codes and values they ceased to be those that once made me proud. I am deeply concerned that we are going through the third year without educational presence in an eminently practical career. I am concerned regarding medicine, I am concerned regarding the students, I am concerned regarding the resulting academic quality and the lack of training to which we are leading the poor kids. We are mortgaging their future. Certainly no one thinks of them. Do not come to me with sophisms and euphemisms, I am not interested in hearing them. It’s all in sight,” he said.
