Thiruvananthapuram: Muslim organizations have held discussions with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on the issue of leaving the appointments of the Waqf Board to the PSC. The majority of the organizations demanded that the old system be restored and that the law brought in the Assembly to leave the appointment to the PSC be repealed. The AP section welcomed the decision to leave the appointment to PSC. They demanded a transparent appointment at the meeting.
The leaders of the organization told the media that the discussion with the Chief Minister was promising. The Samastha leadership demanded that the Chief Minister should form a committee comprising representatives of religious organizations and representatives of the Waqf Board to make impeccable appointments to the Waqf Board. The Chief Minister replied that it might be considered sympathetically. All the leaders said that the CM had informed the government that it was open-minded and did not insist on the issue.
The Samastha leaders said that none of the 11 delegates who spoke at the meeting had said that the appointment should be left to the PSC. He demanded a transparent appointment. Samastha leaders said they did not feel the need for a recruitment board for the appointment and that the committee was appropriate.
