Serge Boucher: approaching friendship with philosophy

Friendship, solidarity and the unspoken, sprinkled with “Fragments” of the past, will be at the heart of Serge Boucher’s new drama series.

In this new part, which Serge Boucher (“Aveux”, “Appearances”, “Fires” and “Fragile”) calls his “intimate philosophical chronicle”, life, love, friendship, ass, desire, happiness and death will be celebrated.

“It’s a series regarding healing […] which puts the individual back at the heart of the group” and which revisits founding fragments of life that have made each of the characters what they have become 35 years later, explained the author on Wednesday when the series was announced. .

By chance, one day, François Bibeau (James Hyndman) comes across Paul-André Denis (René-Richard Cyr) and his first flame, Marlène Cormier (Céline Bonnier), in a somewhat unusual situation. This fortuitous meeting will resonate in François, who will try to reactivate the “Victo Quartet” which they formed at the time with the late Jacynthe Nadeau (Camille Felton), who died in the 1980s, and from whom he was ejected.

Through back and forth between the past and the present, Serge Boucher raises many existential questions through his protagonists. “What is it to live, what is happiness, what is it to love; it’s regarding all that in “Fragments”. Time: past, present and future interact and at the same time we meet each other, and naturally we will learn things”, underlined the author, adding that the return of François would certainly awaken, awaken and mess things up.

“Who has not asked the question: have I succeeded in my life?”, he dropped by presenting the tone of his new series.

A meeting that changes everything

The impromptu meeting of the members of the late “Victo Quartet” will allow the viewer to travel through the life of François, in which his wife, who died two weeks earlier, and his children Céleste (Schelby Jean-Baptiste) and Édouard (Irdens Exantus) gravitate. But also to discover the world of Marlène, Paul-André, Renaud (Luc Guérin), her spouse of the last 30 years and Thomas (Félix-Antoine Duval), Renaud’s son.

We also understand that the latter is possibly the son of Jacynthe, of whom Marlène, who promised her friend before she died that she would watch over her son, holds the role of surrogate mother for him.

“We always know more than we know and we always know less than we think. But for all sorts of reasons, François will be bound by a kind of impulse to reconnect with the “Quartet”, to get closer to them so that something happens. And it also raises the question: what is our truth? Was Sylvie, who died two weeks ago, the love of her life? Could Marlene have been the love of her life? What was she? Where are our deeper truths? It’s all that that stirs in contact with his old friends from CEGEP, ”for his part let James Hyndman know.

The series will count in its cast Alexis Déziel, Carla Turcotte, Étienne Courville and Maxime Gibeault, who will respectively play the characters of François, Marlène, Paul-André and Renaud in the past, but also Dominique Leduc, France Castel, Luis Oliva and Marie- Helene Gendreau.

Filming should begin next week in the heart of Montreal and should be completed by August.

Directed by Claude Desrosiers and produced by André Dupuy for Amalga, “Fragments” by Serge Boucher will first live on ICI TOU.TV EXTRA for 10 one-hour episodes.
