National table tennis player D Vishwa dies in road accident

Guwahati: Young table tennis player D Vishwa (18) died in a road accident here. The car in which Vishwa was traveling with his companions collided with an oncoming truck. The driver was also killed in the crash. The accident happened on the way from Guwahati to Shillong.

Vishwa hails from Tamil Nadu. According to the Table Tennis Federation of India, the accident happened while going with his teammates to participate in the 83rd Senior National Championship. Vishwat, who was critically injured in the accident, was rushed to Nongpo Civil Hospital. But he died before reaching the hospital. The other three people who were with Vishwat have been admitted to the hospital. Their health condition is satisfactory.

Vishwa is a first year graduate student of Loyola College, Chennai. Vishwa, who trained at the Krishnaswamy TT Club in Anna Nagar (Chennai), won the Youth Under-19 Boys’ Singles title at the National Ranking Tournament in Dehradun in January last year. Runner-up in the same category at the South Zone Ranking Tournament in December 2021.
