China Net Beijing, April 18th On the evening of April 14th, the sixth round of the first performance of the original national opera “The Ballad of the Canal” by the National Centre for the Performing Arts kicked off. Afterwards, they reunited by the canal and presented a magnificent picture of nature and history to the audience with sincere emotions and moving interpretations.
The opera “The Ballad of the Canal” also started a commemorative journey from a new play to a classic, and kicked off the National Centre for the Performing Arts Opera Festival 2022.
The original team assembled heavily and reunited “Canal” for ten years
“A canal is thousands of miles long, and the two sides of the canal are hometowns; a canal is thousands of years old, and the sound of waves and paddles shadows the passage of time”, the opera “Canal Ballad” takes national singing as the carrier and the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal as the background. The Jiangnan scholar Qin Xiaosheng, the wandering artist Shui Honglian, and the blind woman Guan Yanyan met on the canal by chance. The ups and downs of the touching love story that took place showed profound feelings and beautiful human nature.
Lv Jia, Music Artistic Director of NCPA, leads the NCPA Orchestra and NCPA Chorus, and joins hands with Lei Jia, Wang Hongwei, Wang Li, Sun Li and other original performers to gather for the first round of performances, and then recount the joys and sorrows on both sides of the Millennium Canal. The whole score of the opera “The Ballad of the Canal”, which was re-edited and arranged by composer Yin Qing for more than two months, was also expressed by the artists in a more delicate, complete and rich way of musical expression to express the honesty and affection of the protagonist Qin Xiaosheng in the play. , Shui Honglian’s brilliance and chivalry, Guan Yanyan’s sadness and helplessness, Zhang Shuiyao’s domineering and ruthless, are presented in a more three-dimensional manner.
The protagonists are deeply devoted, and the true feelings of “Canal Ballad” echo
Under the distant view of Hangzhou’s landscape presented by the giant curtain on the stage of the Opera House, in the sparkling light of the Grand Canal, a lyrical overture full of Chinese charm flows quietly like a canal. Afterwards, the NCPA choir members turned into “water spirits” symbolizing the flowing water of the canal, and began to take the audience into this poignant and touching story from the “anthropomorphic” perspective of the millennium-long river with a clear and soft tone like a river.
In the first performance of the opening, the NCPA choir created a jubilant atmosphere to celebrate the birthday of the Dragon King of the Canal. Shui Honglian, played by Lei Jia, and Qin Xiaosheng, played by Wang Hongwei, met here by chance and used the singing and dancing team to save the day. Since then, I fell in love at first sight and set foot on the vast canal with an unknown future.
Then, Shui Honglian’s melodious “Canal Ballad” sang the beautiful scenery along the canal and the longing for a better life. In the duet “The Eyes of the Stars”, the hero and heroine expressed their love to each other for the first time with a dialogue-like call and response, and expressed their shyness in love to the psychological process of being genuine, excited and full of hope in a tactful and subtle way. To the fullest.
In the wonderful confrontation with Zhang Shuiyao played by the baritone singer Sun Li, Sun Li portrayed the image of the bully vividly. The exaggerated but spot-on performance is hilarious. As the plot unfolds and advances, the blind woman Guan Yanyan, who was deceived and abandoned by the prodigal son, appears, and Wang Li interprets the transformation of this ordinary “little person” to the point where it makes people cry. Especially when singing “Don’t You Understand”, the consummate singing skills will be the cry of the savior, the cry of the ill-fated and full of longing for the future life, which is delicately portrayed.
At the end of the opera, the scene in which the red lotus set fire to the boat and sacrificed her life to save her life and died in the sea of fire, the use of modern technology to create a sea of fire and the overturning of the hull, the extreme contrast and the grand scene also shocked the audience. Against the backdrop of raging flames and a high-hanging ship, the song “Love You in the Afterlife” set off the climax of the whole play. The NCPA Orchestra led by Mr. Lv Jia, the artistic director of the NCPA, also released all its passion. , making the audience unable to extricate themselves for a long time in this soul-stirring human love.
“A lifetime of yearning, a lifetime of love, has become a fragment of the river… I want to find you to the horizon!” Immediately following Shui Honglian’s aria, Qin Sheng’s song “Where Are You, Red Lotus” sounded, and Wang Hongwei was on the scene The high-pitched singing outlines a clearer and fuller character image, and the full dramatic emotion it reveals all moves the audience.
This round of performances lasted until the 17th. Actors Wang Lida, Wang Zhe, Wang Zenan, Wang Hexiang, Wu Mengxue and others took over the stage and sang a moving aria that was loved by the audience.
