Theo survived the tragic bus accident in Egypt, but not his grandmother: “I saw the fire at the front and people burning”

A tragic bus accident in Egypt took place on Wednesday. Ten people lost their lives, including a Belgian. She had taken her family on vacation for a birthday. Survivor of the accident, his grandson testifies today. “For my 18th birthday, we decided to go to Egypt. It was one of the most beautiful trips of our lives before this crash”, he confides.

I found myself on the ground with a lady on my knees

Theo was with his grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins. Wednesday, they get up very early to visit the temple of Abu Simbel. “I was sleeping and felt my head hit something really hard. It must have been the front chair I guess. My head hit really hard, and I found myself on the floor with a lady on my lap and fish that flew everywhere”, poursuit Theo. “Fish because our bus had a head-on accident with a truck carrying flammable goods and fish.”

“I heard people screaming. I saw the fire in front and people burning. By some miracle I managed to get out and the bus exploded 10 seconds later. Luckily a Frenchman had the right idea of ​​tapping with your foot once morest the 2nd door of the bus at the back which opened, and we were able to escape thanks to that”, says the young survivor.

That’s what I want to remember from her

There were ten deaths. Ten people seated at the front of the bus. Among them, Lucia, Theo’s grandmother. “We hope she died directly from the impact and that she did not suffer. She was traveling a lot and was very happy to be there. We had a great time before this crash and that’s what that I want to retain from her”

Theo has a broken nose and part of the gum torn out. Five members of his family are also injured. “We were told broken noses, broken arms, missing teeth… But we don’t care regarding that. We’re just happy to still be alive. I still have trouble realizing. We knew the people on the bus because it had been a few dayss that we were together. Psychologically, it will be hard. In the next few days, we will be taken care of by psychologists”, he concludes.
