The Boston Marathon is a 42.195 km foot race taking the roads and streets of Boston every year since 1897, usually the third Monday in April (Patriots’ Day). It is the oldest annual marathon in the world! He is part of the World Marathon Majors, competition comprising six major marathons.
The event attracts 500,000 spectators each year, making it the most watched sporting event in New England. Beginning with a number of 18 participants in 1897, the race now attracts every year an average of regarding 30,000 participants. The record was reached during the hundredth edition in 1996 with 38,708 participants.
This event is very special insofar as registration is subject to the obligation to present a qualifying time to be achieved during a previous marathon certified by USA Track & Field or AIMS. Among these, qualifiers for the Boston Marathon, are the five other marathons of the World Marathon Major League (Chicago, New York, Berlin, London, Tokyo) as well as most of the annual marathons of major American cities.
