“MS Considers Advertisement Into Free Xbox Games”
(Los Angeles = Yonhap News) Correspondent Yoon-seop Jeong = It is known that Microsoft is considering introducing advertisements to free games on the video game console Xbox.
Business Insider, an American economic media, reported this on the 16th (local time), citing an Xbox source.
The source said that the company is considering ways to display advertisements that do not interfere with users’ gameplay. For example, there might be a way to expose the product brand on a billboard in a racing game.
However, Microsoft is considering a plan to limit advertisements to specific brands as it judges that dissatisfaction with users may increase if advertisements are allowed indiscriminately.
The Verge, an IT professional media, said that there may be a way to sell advertisements using skins, which are items that decorate in-game avatars, and online spaces where game players gather, but it is not yet clear how Microsoft will introduce advertisements.
The Verge predicted that if Microsoft advertises through free games, it will generate new revenue streams and attract more free game developers to the Xbox platform.
