President of Peru evaluates applying chemical castration to rapists

Pedro Castillo visited the family of the abused girl and promised to speed up the justice process.

After the case of the three-year-old girl kidnapped and abused by JA Enríquez García, in Chiclayo, President Pedro Castillo announced that the Government is evaluating drastic measures such as the application of mandatory chemical castration for rapists of minors, adolescents and women , as is already done in other countries of the world.

“Enough of so much violence, crimes of sexual violence once morest children will not be tolerated by this government, nor will they go unpunished. The pain of this family is also ours, I feel outraged at such cruelty, “said the head of state, according to a press release from the Presidency of the Republic.

“This atrocious and inhumane fact leads us to a huge reflection as a country to adopt more severe State public policies that safeguard the human rights of the most defenseless that are our boys and girls, and chemical castration is an option, we cannot wait any longer. ”, he stated.

The president indicated that the viability of this measure must be included in the Penal Code and that the approval of the Congress of the Republic will be needed for its legality, as has already been done in countries such as Russia, the United States (seven states), Poland, South Korea, Indonesia and Moldova, where it already applies.

“We urge the Congress of the Republic to support concrete measures in favor of the most vulnerable, because we cannot continue to tolerate these violent acts that damage our integrity as a society and destroy the lives of the defenseless,” he said.

Actions to attend to minor outraged in Chiclayo

President Castillo assured that they are monitoring the health status of the injured minor in Chiclayo and that it has been arranged, if applicable, through the Ministry of Women and Vulnerable Populations, that she be transferred together with her parents to the city of Lima, for care in their rehabilitation and psychological support, in addition to legal advice and free legal defense that are available to the family.

In this sense, and along the same lines as the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, it called on the Public Ministry and the Judiciary so that, according to the facts and evidence found once morest the aggressors, they activate the immediate process, so that this measure allows a direct accusation to be made and within a period not exceeding five days they can be sentenced.

“The government of President Castillo rejects acts of sexual violence, even more so once morest minors, and reaffirms its firm commitment to ensure the well-being, respect for human rights, and comprehensive protection of the girls, boys, and adolescents who represent the present and the future, as well as that of the women of the country”, concludes the statement.

The Minister for Women, Diana Miloslavich, was also with the president and offered psychological support to the victim’s relatives.
