How small US state Delaware is attracting the world’s wealthiest companies

Delaware is the second smallest state in the United States. With its 154 kilometers long, its 56 kilometers at its widest part, and less than a million inhabitants, it represents only a simple confetti on the map of the country. Located northeast of Washington, the region of origin of Joe Biden attracts the most powerful companies in the world thanks to its very advantageous taxation.

A French family established in Delaware in 1800 is the perfect illustration of this: the DuPont de Nemours. Their company has since become a global chemical giant, developing nylon, Teflon or lycra. Today, it has 65,000 employees worldwide and nearly 40 billion dollars in sales.

Nicknamed the “First State”, Delaware is also the first state to have ratified the American constitution in 1787. Historically however, it will be one of the last to ratify, in 1901, the three amendments consecrating the abolition of slavery .
