The fire started around 6:30 p.m. in a residential building on rue Mayer, very close to rue Saint-Charles. While heading towards the blaze, the firefighters noticed a huge column of smoke emerging from it.
With the strong winds, which produced gusts of up to 70 km/h, the fire spread to the buildings to the left and right of the residence and the garage in the back.
A total of 12 people had to evacuate their homes, and only three will have to be relocated.
The first accommodation is a total loss. The others are much less damaged.
On several occasions during the interview with the QMI Agency, Captain Luc Galarneau wanted to thank the 60 firefighters who participated in controlling the blaze.
