Avoid consulting if it is not necessary

Spring flu

The CISSS de Lanaudière wants to avoid overloading the health network and therefore asks people with mild flu symptoms not to go to the emergency room.

While Quebec is currently affected by a new spring flu (influenza) season, the management of the CISSS de Lanaudière would like to remind the population that they should only go to the emergency room in case of extreme necessity in order to to avoid further increasing the pressure on the health and social services network.

An increase in influenza cases has been observed, as has an increase in the number of hospitalizations and emergency room visits related to influenza complications. The new spring flu season, an unusual situation at this time of year, coincides with the 6th wave of COVID-19.

Many flu-like symptoms may resemble those of the COVID-19. If symptoms appear, the patient must self-isolate and take a rapid test for COVID-19 or a PCR test for eligible customers. Even if the test result is negative and the infection is probably related to influenza, it is important to avoid contact with other people as much as possible.

If a person is infected with the flu or COVID-19, it is recommended to start care at home. If in doubt, or if the symptoms worsen, the person can call the Info-Santé service by dialing 8‑1‑1 to obtain clinical advice from a nurse.

Users whose situation is not urgent are invited to consult their family doctor or pharmacist, to consult a doctor at a walk-in clinic or to contact Info-Santé to be directed to the right resource.
