Gurten and Young Vikings won

Union Gurten has never won a game once morest Deutschlandsberg, but on Maundy Thursday the time had come: With a 1-0 home win, coach Peter Madritsch’s team secured second place in the table. The Young Vikings took a giant step out of the relegation zone. They shot bottom Stadl-Paura off the field with a 7-0 victory.

The big game between Gurten, second in the table, and Germany’s immediate pursuer, was a great exchange of blows. Gurten had a great chance to take the lead in the 41st minute, but Fabian Wimmleitner failed to take a penalty. Three minutes following the restart, however, the time had come: Florian Schütz scored the lead with a powerful shot right into the Kreuzeck. Gurten clearly dominated the second half of the game and deservedly won the game. The only drop of bitterness: Fabian Wimmleitner and Jacub Przybylko picked up the fifth yellow card and are suspended, Thomas Burghuber and Rene Wirth retired due to injury. It continues on Easter Monday with the away game once morest the WAC amateurs.

Victory for the Young Vikings

This means that coach Stefan Offenzeller’s team has been unbeaten in four games. In the table, Rieder climbed to tenth place. On Easter Monday, the Vikings want to continue this series away once morest Gleisdorf. “We’ve gained a lot of self-confidence now. We have confidence in Gleisdorf and want to score points,” said captain Julian Baumgartner. (tst/jsz)
