(Istanbul = Yonhap News) Correspondent Kim Seung-wook = Russia has attacked the manufacturing plant of the ‘Neptune’ missile used for the sinking of Moscow in retaliation for the sinking of the Black Sea Fleet flagship ‘Moscow’.

According to the AFP news agency, the office of the President of Ukraine said on the 15th (local time) that an explosion was heard the night before in the Vasilkiu region outside Kiiu, and the air defense system was activated.

The Russian Defense Ministry also said on the same day, “This morning, a long-range precision missile ‘Kalibr’ launched from the sea hit a military facility outside Kyiv. announced that

The attack is interpreted as retaliation for the sinking of the Black Sea Fleet flagship Moscow the day before.

Ukraine said Moscow was hit by two Neptune missiles and sank.

However, Russia countered that a large-scale fire broke out in Moscow and sank in a storm while traveling to the port of Sevastopol for repairs.

Western intelligence officials believe that the Ukrainian claim that Moscow was sunk with a Neptune missile is more persuasive, and Russia’s attack on a Ukrainian munitions plant on the same day adds weight to the claim of a surface-to-ship missile attack.

This is because the Ukrainian military plant in Bijar, which Russia attacked, is the production facility for the Neptune missile.

Ukraine’s state-owned arms manufacturer, Ukroboronprom, said in a statement that it had produced Neptune missiles at its Bizar plant.

AFP news agency reported that the workshop and administrative building of the Bijar factory near Kiiu Giuliani Airport had been severely damaged.

“There was an airstrike around 1:30 a.m.,” Andrei Sizou, owner of a sawmill near the Bizar plant, told AFP.

“In response to the terrorist attacks on Russian territory carried out by the Ukrainian nationalist regime, the number and scale of missile attacks on targets in Kiiu will be increased,” the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

After the Russian army withdrew from the northern front of Ukraine, including Kiiu, at the end of last month, the attack on Kii had practically stopped.
