It is Antwerp that will take the place of the Liège club within the G5, alongside Anderlecht, FC Bruges, La Gantoise and Genk. G5 presence is determined by results over the past five seasons, quite disappointing results for Standard since 2017. This season, the Rouches finished 14th in the regular league stage, failing to clinch a ticket for the playoffs.
G5 clubs have three votes at Pro League general meetings, compared to two for other clubs. TV rights are also higher for G5 members.
Since returning to D1A, Antwerp have played leading roles and qualified for the European Cup. This season, the Great Old is still in contention in the Champions playoffs.
The Pro League, which represents all the professional clubs in the country, did not confirm this information, indicating to Belga that the final balance sheet will only be drawn up when the season is actually over.
