Russia’s intelligence chief Lt. Col. Vyacheslav Savinov has been confirmed dead in Ukraine. Vyacheslav, 40, was killed last month.

Vyacheslav, who was also the deputy commander of the Russian Missile Troops and Artillery Wing, was killed in a fierce battle between Russian and Ukrainian forces in southern Ukraine. Vyacheslav, a married man and father of two, was previously part of Russia’s Syrian mission.

In addition to Vyacheslav, Alexander Bespalov, commanding officer of the 59th Guard Tank Regiment of Ukraine, was killed. His funeral was held in the Russian city of Osersk. Bespalov was killed in the battle of Harkiv.

Ukraine claims that 18,900 Russian soldiers have been killed in Ukraine so far. But Russia says this is an inflated figure. Russia’s official estimates put the death toll in Ukraine at 1351 until March 25.
