According to the ARD political magazine, the general public prosecutor’s office in Koblenz is investigating «Report Mainz» once morest twelve German men and women aged 55, 54, 50, 42 and 41 years, who are said to have planned a serious act of violence endangering the state and other crimes.
Among other things, the kidnapping of Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (59) and the “elimination” of his bodyguards are said to have been planned. The action was planned under the name “Klabautermann”.
Lateral thinkers wanted to take over the German government
In addition, they are said to have planned to cause a nationwide power outage in Germany by attacking substations and power lines, according to the report. So they wanted to cause “civil war-like conditions”. According to the investigators, the accused wanted to use this chaos to overthrow the democratic system in Germany and then take over the government.
The plans of the twelve accused are said to have become more concrete in the past few days. The group wanted to buy weapons, mines and protective equipment for tens of thousands of euros. A first handover of two Kalashnikov weapons and five pistols was to take place on Wednesday in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse in Rhineland-Palatinate.
But what the lateral thinkers did not expect: The offer of weapons was a trap for the investigators. The gun buyer was arrested, and two other men were arrested on Wednesday in Lower Saxony and Brandenburg. The investigators list the three men as the main suspects, as well as another person who is currently abroad. They are said to have organized the purchase of weapons and the necessary money.
Another suspect was arrested in Bavaria during the day. All those arrested will be brought before the investigating judge on Thursday. The German police searched a total of 21 houses and apartments in several federal states and seized data carriers, computers and mobile phones.
Group organized on Telegram
The twelve accused probably organized themselves into several right-wing extremist Telegram groups. According to research by “Report Mainz”, the topics in these groups ranged from prepper ideologies to corona skepticism to open right-wing extremism. Individual members of the group fantasized regarding assassination attempts on politicians, exchanged tips on how to make poison and how to organize weapons.
According to the investigators, the Telegram chat group has a total of around 70 members. However, the group not only exchanged information online, but also met in real life to determine their plans and organizational structures. (chs)
