Already the 3rd episode of Moon Knight ! This Wednesday, April 13, Disney+ adds to its catalog a new unreleased episode of its latest production from Marvel Studios. And if you have already seen the two previous episodes, they too are obviously available on the American streaming platform, you know that this new one will be set in the desert of Cairo, in Egypt. Only, has Hollywood production really set up its cameras in this region of the world? The fiction Moon Knight was it really shot in the places where it is supposed to take place? The answer should surprise you!
Where were the different episodes of Moon Knight ?
From episode 1, Steven Grant (Oscar Isaac who gave us an interview) travel ! If the action begins in London, very quickly the character finds himself in a small village in the Alps, lost in the middle of nowhere. Then at the end of episode 2, he finds himself in Egypt. But were the teams in the series really shot in these destinations? We asked the question to the director and executive producer of the show, Mohamed Diab, who revealed to us that it was in Hungary, in Budapest more precisely, that most of the sequences were filmed. “The place where we were most present was in Hungary in Budapest. It is a very beautiful city where we were able to shoot many scenes which are supposed to take place elsewhere such as in London, in Egypt or even in Germany. Watching the series, you would never guess that these scenes were actually filmed in Hungary.” he revealed to us in an interview.
Most of the sequences were shot in the studio… but not only
It was in the Origo studios, located in Budapest, that the technical teams set up their cameras for several long weeks. But that’s not all: the famous Pinewood studios in England were also the scene of the filming of Moon Knight. The exterior shots, and especially those depicting the city of London, have effectively boxed the streets of Budapest. Thus, the British Museum in London where Steven works is actually the Museum of Fine Arts in Heroes’ Square in Budapest. Just like the protagonist’s apartment, which was actually located in a small street in the capital of Hungary, near Erzsebet Square. The first meeting between Arthur Harrow (Ethan Hawke) and Steven Grant was filmed in the small village of Szentendre, located on the left bank of the Danube.
Also, the impressive winding road near the village of Bezgovica in Osilnica, southern Slovenia, served as the natural setting for the car chase in episode 1. Finally, most of the desert scenes supposed to take place in Cairo were actually shot in the Wadi Rum nature reserve in Jordan (like the films Dune, lawrence of arabia or more episodes of the saga Star Wars).
