The British undersecretary for the armed forces, James Heappey, warned Russia on the 12th that any use of chemical weapons by the Russian army in an attack on Ukraine, will trigger a Western response, and “all possible options are on the table”.
British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss has said the UK is working with partners to verify details of reports that Russian forces may have used chemicals in the attack on Malibo, according to Sky News. Thousands of people are believed to have lost their lives there during the nearly seven-week siege of Malibo by Russian forces. “There is an argument that these may be phosphorous bombs,” Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Malyar said in a televised talk.
“If they (chemical weapons) are used, then (Russian) President Vladimir Putin should know that all possible options are on the table as to how the West might respond,” Harper told Sky News. Things are unacceptable, the use of chemical weapons will trigger a response, and all options are on the table as to what kind of response is possible.”
According to the “Newsweek” report, the Azov Battalion of the Ukrainian National Guard accused the Russian army of using drones to drop toxic substances made of unknown materials on Malibo’s troops and civilians, causing the victims to develop symptoms such as respiratory failure. Ukrainian lawmaker Solomiia Bobrovska called on Twitter: “President Biden and NATO have declared that if Russia uses chemical weapons, there will be a strong reaction, and now is the time to act.”
