Developer Steve Troughton-Smith says he found a reference to an unreleased Mac mini in the Apple Studio Display firmware code.
Apple appears to have hardware support built into the Studio Display firmware for devices that are not yet on the market. A device with the code name “Macmini10,1” is listed there. That might be the Mac mini, regarding which there are already numerous rumours. It should be a new model with slightly more compact dimensions than the current Mac mini.
Troughton-Smith wrote on Twitter that the new device will come with an M2 chip and not an M1 Pro. That would only be logical for Apple, the Mac mini must not compete too much with the Mac Studio. It is not clear when the new Mac mini will be launched and what it will cost.
Like the site Appletrack reports, the design of the next-gen Mac mini will feature a small body with a glass panel on top and lots of ports on the back, rather than repeating the design of the current model. The M1 is already at work in the current Mac mini, but the case still corresponds to the Intel model.
What do you wish for in a Mac mini? Feel free to write something in the comment fields. We would like a modularly expandable model with a removable SSD and removable RAM.
