For 8 months, Hector Fabio Parraworker of a bank of Bogotá, used his position in the safety equipment of the company to execute the robbery of $924 million to multiple clients.
He would have committed the theft while being a ghost even for his bosses, because through codes that obstructed the computer system internal might do transactions up to $19 million to two accounts of an accomplice partner who has not yet been captured.
The 82 irregular movements –warned by clients– were tracked down by the entity, and following denouncing them, the case passed into the hands of agents of the prosecutionwho have already identified the way in which the detainee would have acted between May and December 2021.
With all the evidence, the CTI went to his house -in the west of the capital-. There they found two cards, $19,000 and $609 million in cash, which he had not entered into his account so as not to raise suspicions with an increase in assets that he might not justify.
The employee plan
Parra began working at the bank – of which this newspaper refrains from publishing his name – 10 years ago. After the theft, the company has him close to being sentenced following having accepted charges for conspiracy to commit a crime, non-consensual transfer of assets, abusive access to a computer system and illicit use of communication networks.
The plan that will take him to prison for these crimes began to be executed in May of last year. By then made use of his position and began profiling clients who had large amounts of money deposited in the bank.
After identifying his victims, a specialized team from the accusing entity discovered that Parra had violated the security system by freezing it for a few seconds, in which he took the opportunity to transfer from 4 to 19 million pesos. At that moment their partners came into play: One was a co-worker, and the other was the owner of both accounts.
It was the latter to whom he would have offered commissions for each withdrawal that half an hour following the robbery made through the window. At the moment, neither he nor the other accomplice have been captured, although the Prosecutor’s Office has them in their sights.
Other planned measures
The bank declared itself a victim in the case following identifying that its clients never gave the keys to their accounts. Therefore, they seek the restitution of the 50% of the stolenbecause the rest of the money remains pending.
However, the Prosecutor’s Office is evaluating whether to seize the employee of the apartments and his BMW car to recover the money. This newspaper learned that a theft is regarding to be uncovered with another bank for three times what Parra managed to get.
