Covid: A mosquito found in a vial of the Moderna vaccine… 764,900 wasted doses

Moderna has withdrawn nearly 800,000 doses of its Covid vaccine. A mosquito was found in one of the bottles made in Madrid.

It was in Malaga (Spain) that the pellet from the Rovi laboratory in Madrid was detected: a mosquito appeared in a vial of Moderna’s anti-Covid vaccine.

The American laboratory then launched, last Friday, an alert to destroy the entire batch which had already been sent to Norway, Portugal, Spain and Sweden.

According to Moderna, only one vial may have been contaminated and “no safety issues have been identified in people who received the vaccine.” However, the lots distributed were withdrawn as a “precaution”.

According to Moderna’s internal investigation, “the foreign body is a small insect, a mosquito, which entered the vial during production, and was not detected by routine checks.”

Note that no dose from the vial where the mosquito was found was injected.

According to Catalan televisionthis is not the first time that Rovi laboratories, providers of Moderna in Madrid, have had to withdraw contaminated Covid vaccines.
