Speedrunner completes the RPG in less than nine minutes

Over the past few weeks, speedrunners have been trying to complete the acclaimed open-world role-playing game “Elden Ring” as quickly as possible. With a time of less than nine minutes, the speed runner “Distortion2” should have set the bar very high.

In February of this year, the open-world role-playing game “Elden Ring” was released, the latest work by the Japanese developer studio From Software for consoles and PC.

With “Elden Ring” the developers not only managed to inspire the players and the critics alike. In addition, the speedrunner community immediately embraced the acclaimed fantasy adventure and tried to complete “Elden Ring” as quickly as possible. After several speedrunners recently managed to finish “Elden Ring” in 20 to 30 minutes, “Distortion2” now raised the bar significantly higher.

He needed just 8 minutes and 56 seconds for his run and should therefore hold the current world record.

Speedrunner explains his procedure

However, it almost goes without saying that this fabulous time might only be achieved by exploiting minor bugs or glitches. In this case by the so-called zipper glitch. It states: “The zip is caused by the specific way the run and guard animations overlap. Zips are hardware dependent (and therefore only allowed in unrestricted runs). A lower resolution makes them more consistent.”

If you would like to watch the almost nine-minute run-through for yourself, we have included the corresponding video for you to view. According to “Distortion2”, there is still room for improvement when using the zipper glitch. Therefore, in the coming days and weeks, he will try to beat his record time once more.

Available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S, The Elden Ring quickly became a commercial success for From Software and Bandai Namco Entertainment. Within a very short time, more than eleven million units of the open-world role-playing game were delivered to retailers or sold digitally.
