Former Genk coach: ‘Illogical and shameful’

Racing Genk did what they had to do on Sunday by winning at Seraing. The Limburgers thus qualified for the Playoffs 2 following a disappointing season. Bernd Storck’s team thus retains a chance to play on the European scene next season.

Racing Genk had big ambitions at the start of the season. After the brilliant run in Playoffs 1 last season, the Limburgers wanted to compete once morest Club Brugge this season. The vice-champion has seen the title go away for months and managed to snatch the eighth place synonymous with Playoffs 2.

René Vandereycken is strict with his former club. “In Genk, we have to talk regarding a failed season, even following qualifying for the Playoffs 2. A thorough internal analysis of what went wrong and who is responsible for it is necessary,” he told Het Newblad.

“Genk finished last season in second place following a brilliant final round and were able to keep all their star players in the offseason. So this result is illogical and shameful,” concluded Vandereycken.
