Pegatron suspends iPhone production in China due to Corona

The electronics company Pegatron Corp., which produces iPhones for the American company Apple, announced today, Tuesday, the suspension of its factories in the Chinese cities of Shanghai and Kunshan, in compliance with the measures imposed by the Chinese local authorities to stop the spread of the new Corona virus.

And the Bloomberg News Agency quoted the company’s statement as saying that the date for the resumption of production will depend on the decisions of the local authorities.

The company continues to assess the implications of the decision to suspend production on its financial results.

It is noteworthy that Pegatron shares the assembly of iPhone phones in China with Foxconn Technology Group and LuxeShare Precision Industry.

China is currently experiencing the worst outbreak of the Corona virus since the pandemic began two years ago.

Last week, the municipal authorities in the Chinese city of Shanghai announced the indefinite extension of the closure imposed due to Corona on 26 million residents of the city.

Referring to the significant increase in cases of the virus, Zhou Honghui, deputy secretary-general of the Shanghai government, described the situation as a “race once morest time.”
