Three years following marriage
It has been three years since the marriage between 82-year-old Iris and 36-year-old Mohammed. Iris says that no age difference affects the relationship and that the few days they had to separate during their married life made them realize the power of their love. It was through Facebook that Muhammad and Iris met. Soon following, the friendship turned into love. Then Iris went to Egypt to see Muhammad. The young man had gone to Cairo when Muhammad’s father fell ill while living together as a married man. It was during this period that Iris says she realized the depth of their relationship and how lucky she was. She told the Manchester Evening News that it was during this time of separation that she realized her husband was a ‘precious gem’.

Both of Iris’ children are in their late fifties. The couple was initially reluctant to accept their mother’s love affair with a man smaller than themselves and a 46-year-old man.
