West Virginia town evacuated: Explosion: Train carrying crude oil derails in the US – Panorama – Society

An entire town in the eastern US state of West Virginia has been evacuated because of a serious train accident. According to authorities, a freight train loaded with crude oil derailed late Monday, spilling oil into the Kanawha River, and a major fire broke out. Residents of the Powelltown Hollow area have been evacuated to safety.

The train was said to be traveling from Nebraska to Virginia. The authorities declared a state of emergency in the region. Information on the cause of the accident or possible injuries was not initially available. (AFP)
