The former Vice President of the Republic, Jorge Glas, arrived in Guayaquil following a judge from Santa Elena granted him a habeas corpus, despite the fact that he has three final sentences once morest him. Despite the fact that the Government files an appeal, there is only one reality: he will remain free indefinitely.

During the night of April 9, Judge Diego Javier Moscoso issued a habeas corpus in favor of the Correísta politician and ordered that he be released from the Cotopaxi prison. This magistrate belongs to a court in Manglaralto, a rural parish in the province of Santa Elena.

The SNAI appeal must be processed in the Provincial Court of Santa Elena and this appeal must be accepted for the habeas corpus to be declared null. But, everything will depend on that instance the time it takes to process that appeal.

For its part, the SNAI assured that Judge Moscoso was not competent, “according to the territory,” to hear and resolve the habeas corpus and indicated that Glas has two final convictions, for having been found guilty of committing the crimes of illicit association and bribery, “so that the Constitutional Action of Habeas Corpus becomes inadmissible.”

For this reason, SNAI asks Judge Moscoso that the file be forwarded to the competent Court to “hear and resolve” the appeal.
