Twist in Bamako by Robert Guédiguian at the cinema on April 8 – The initiative

MK2 | MILE END and PÉRIPHERIA are pleased to announce that the film TWIST À BAMAKO by Robert Guédiguian will be released in Quebec on April 8th. Presented in preview and in competition at the 38th edition of the Vues d’Afrique International Film Festival in Montreal (April 1 to 10) and at the Festival Cinéma du Monde in Sherbrooke (April 7 to 14), TWIST À BAMAKO takes place in West Africa, in the Mali of the 1960s, inspired by the work of the famous photographer Malick Sidibé.

1960. Samba, a young socialist militant whose father is a well-established merchant from Bamako, meets Lara during one of his missions in the bush. Lara takes advantage of Samba to run away from her family who want to force her to marry. While Lara discovers a new life in Bamako, Samba begins to loudly challenge certain decisions of her hierarchy since her father was imprisoned. Our two heroes meet one evening in one of the many dance clubs in Bamako and swear never to leave each other once more. But events will decide otherwise…

The 22nd film by prolific French director Robert Guédiguian, TWIST À BAMAKO stars Alicia Da Luz Gomes (Lara) and Stéphane Bak (The French Dispatch) surrounded by an all-Senegalese cast. The film’s original music was composed by Olivier Alary (Twelfth Night, Lemonade).
A French, Canadian and Senegalese co-production, TWIST À BAMAKO is produced by Marc Bordure and Robert Guédiguian on behalf of Agat Films & Cie (France), as well as Canal+ and France 3; Yanick Létourneau on behalf of Périphéria (Canada), with the support of SODEC, Telefilm Canada and Eurimages, and Angèle Diabang on behalf of Karoninka (Senegal) with the support of Canal+ International.
Distributed in Canada by MK2 | MILE END, TWIST IN BAMAKO hits theaters in Quebec on April 8 in its original French version.
