Boutin won her third silver medal of these World Championships in the 1000m, an event in which two Canadian skaters competed at the Maurice-Richard Arena.
The 27-year-old Sherbrooke native finished in 2nd place, with a time of 1 min 28 s 276/1000, behind South Korean Minjeong Choi. New Brunswicker Courtney Sarault fell on the last lap.
In the B final, Germany’s Anne Seidl (1:30.882) won, and Alyson Charles (1:31.498) finished in 5th and last place in the group.
Boutin then won his fourth silver medal in the 3000m, finishing second, just behind Minjeong Choi, once more.
It was the right strategy to stay very close to the South Korean. Kim skated well
said Marianne St-Gelais, analyst for Radio-Canada Sports.
With a victory, Boutin would have taken the title in the cumulative standings. She finally took 2nd position.
In the 3000m relay, the last distance of these worlds, the Canadian team composed of Boutin, Florence Brunelle, Alyson Charles and Courtney Sarault finished in 2nd place with a time of 4:09.717.
Boutin, who was on the last stint, was narrowly overtaken by the last South Korean torchbearer, who overtook her on the outside.
It was a fifth silver medal for the prolific skater from Sherbrooke.
This title of vice-world champion in the relay for the Canadians is a bandage following what happened at the Olympics
said Marianne St-Gelais.
Charles Hamelin’s Last
In the 5000 m relay, for the last competition of Charles Hamelin’s career, the Canadian team made up of Hamelin, Jordan Pierre-Gilles, Steven Dubois and Pascal Dion ended up on the third step of the podium, following completing the race in 6:56.807.
South Korea won (6:56.709) ahead of the Netherlands.
We tend to want to close the door, but Charles rather let go, which may have cost 1st place, but the boys gave a very good performance
analyzed Marianne St-Gelais.
Earlier in the day, Dion won the 3000m super final in style, clocking 4:42.214.
The Montrealer beat South Korean June Seo Lee and Dutchman Sjinkie Knegt. He was the only Canadian to participate in this event.
With his victory, Dion became vice-world champion in the general classification.
The 27-year-old won the 1000m B final with a time of 1:26.931.
No Canadians took part in the A final. Shaoang Liu of Hungary won with a time of 1:25.462, confirming the defense of his title in the overall standings.
Steven Dubois was eliminated in the semi-finals, while Jordan Pierre-Gilles was stopped in the quarters.
