Antonio Banderas enjoys very excited the Holy Week in Malaga

The Holy Week processions have once once more filled the streets of all of Spain following two years paused, due to the coronavirus pandemic. At last the virus has given a truce and the necessary requirements have already been met to resume the traditional acts. There are many familiar faces that maintain a special devotion to Holy Week, as is the case of Antonio Banderas, who has left everything aside to visit Malaga and join a brotherhood.

Banderas is very faithful to this tradition and that is why the Hollywood star has been seen with La Dolorosa, in the church of San Juan Bautista, surrounded by great friends and family, such as his little brother Javier and his sister-in-law. The renowned actor has enjoyed the lighting of candles to the Virgin of Tears and Favors, the act that is traditionally celebrated every Passion Saturday, the eve of Palm Sunday in the city.

Since he was 7 years old, the interpreter had never missed any of the festivities that the María Santísima de Lágrimas y Favores brotherhood celebrated in the city of Malaga. He didn’t either in 2017, the year he suffered a heart attack. Antonio was faithful to his beliefs, even being dedicated to health. In fact, the press always tends to take pictures of his visits to Malaga’s Holy Week.

In 2011, he fulfilled his role as brother, and he himself was in charge of kicking off Holy Week in Malaga with a very important proclamation for him, which moved all Malagans: “Our Holy Week, the Passion Week is so multifaceted because there are as many Holy Weeks as brotherhoods”, he said excitedly.

Today, following two years without his beloved Holy Week, Antonio has not hesitated to once once more highlight on networks how important this celebration is for him and his family: “It brings together the spiritual with tradition, identity, art, popular culture, charity and solidarity”, he explained sharing a beautiful image of the Virgin, to whom he pays maximum respect. In addition, the actor has also wanted to explain what this tradition consists of in English, so that his most international followers can understand the devotion he feels.
