Valais Police

All-out battle for the Valais and Vaudois gendarmes on the night of Friday to Saturday. Around 1:40 a.m., a misdirection on the A9 motorway was reported. Spotted in Saxon (VS), “an 80-year-old driver was driving in the overtaking lane towards Martigny on the roadway reserved for traffic heading from Martigny to Sion”, reports the Valais police.

A minor shock

The worst was avoided near Martigny, following a collision between the mirror of the car in the opposite direction and that of a vehicle which was traveling normally. The octogenarian from Valais continued on his way, still in the wrong direction, towards Bas-Valais. It was near Saint-Triphon, in the town of Ollon (VD) that a Vaud police patrol managed to intercept it.

Permit seized

Contacted by 20 minutes, the Valais police reported, through their spokesperson Stève Léger, that the 80-year-old motorist’s license was seized immediately. As for the causes of the misinterpretation, he did not want to talk regarding this specific case. “Misinterpretations are rare, fortunately. They generally occur when the motorist has drunk alcohol, taken medication or narcotics or is completely disoriented,” he recalled.
