The collision left the 69-year-old motorcyclist no chance. This Saturday morning, while driving on the Tremelobaan (Tremelo, Flemish Brabant), he was hit from behind by a Volkswagen. Following the shock, and as explained by our colleagues from Laatste Nieuws, the sexagenarian lost control of his scooter and fell violently.
Unfortunately, the victim did not survive the accident despite numerous attempts to resuscitate him, as confirmed by prosecutor Sarah Callewaert. The motorist, a 21-year-old young man, tested positive for both alcohol and drugs shortly following the accident. “We do not know if he was driving at excessive speed,” adds the prosecutor.
Closed for long hours, the road finally reopened to traffic around 2 p.m.
