Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins has died at the age of 24 following being struck by a vehicle on a highway in South Florida.
The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) reported that Haskins was attempting to cross the lanes of I-595 on foot when he was struck by a dump truck.
He was pronounced dead at the crash site, according to FHP.
“I am devastated and speechless by the unfortunate passing of Dwayne Haskins,” head coach Mike Tomlin said on the football team’s official account.
“He quickly became a part of our Steelers family upon his arrival in Pittsburgh and was one of our best workers, both on the field and in our community.”

Washington Commanders coach Ron Rivera also mourned Haskins’ death and said he was devastated by the news. He “was a young man with a tremendous amount of potential who had an infectious personality.”

ESPN was the first to report how Haskins died while in Florida for preseason practices.
Haskins, who was a star on the Ohio State University team, was turning 25 in a few weeks.
