The Toronto Blue Jays got their 2022 season off to a spectacular start on Friday with a seven-point comeback over the Texas Rangers in a 10-8 win at Rogers Center in Toronto.

Jose Berrios gave up four runs in the first inning, including a home run to Brad Miller on the 4th pitch of the game. Rangers added to their lead on a two-run homer from Mitch Garver off Tayler Saucedo in the second inning. The visitors’ seventh run came from Nathaniel Lowe’s single in the top of the 4th inning.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and Alejandro Kirk also drove in a run apiece before the end of the inning to cut the deficit to 7-3. Guerrero came back strong with another run single in the fifth inning before Teoscar Hernandez pulled away. completely wipes the deficit thanks to a long ball from three points.

Tied in the game, the two teams traded a point in the sixth and seventh, courtesy of Santiago Espinal’s double and Adolis Garcia’s solo homer. Moments following Garcia’s homer, Gurriel Jr. hit a double that sent Hernandez home. Hernandez was initially ruled out, but a Blue Jays challenge proved he reached the plate before being hit by the catcher.

Toronto added a 10th run on Danny Jansen’s homer late in the eighth inning to complete an impressive comeback and start the season with the win.

It was the Jays’ first home opener in Toronto since the 2019 season. The Blues Jays have played the entire 2020 season and the majority of the 2021 campaign in the United States due to COVID-19.
