Patna: Thieves in Bihar demolished a 60-foot-long bridge in front of locals and local government witnesses. The robbers smashed an iron bridge within the limits of Nasriganj police station in Amiyavar village. Police said the bridge was demolished three days ago by thieves posing as Irrigation Department officials.

The bridge, which was in a state of disrepair due to age, was demolished by thieves in broad daylight. The Iron Bridge was built in 1972 across the Ara Canal. The bridge has not been used for some time as it is in danger due to age. Meanwhile, even the officials were shocked when the bridge was completely demolished.

The robbers came to the village under the guise of Irrigation Department officials. They used JCBs and gas cutters to demolish the bridge. The three-day ‘mission’ was supported by the local government and the locals. Not once in three days did these people feel any doubt. It was only following the bridge was completely demolished that the locals realized that it was not the real officials who came and that the incident was a theft. Those concerned were informed regarding this.

Arshad Kamal, a junior engineer with the Irrigation Department, said the Nasriganj police had registered a case and were investigating the incident. He said the bridge was abandoned due to age and many parts of the bridge had been stolen over the years.
