Choi Min-jung, the ace of the Korean short track team, passed the ISU World Championships in individual events in the first place in the preliminary rounds.
Choi Min-jung finished first in both the women’s 500m and 1,000m qualifiers on the first day of the 2022 ISU Short Track World Championships held at the Maurice Richards Arena in Montreal, Canada.
In the 500m, the time was 42.737 and the 1,000m was 1:30.282.
In the quarterfinals of the 1,500m held on the same day, Choi Min-jung finished first in the group with a time of 2:24.006 and succeeded in advancing to the next round in all individual events.
Choi Min-jung, who won the individual overall at this competition in 2018, is aiming to regain the top following 4 years.
Hwi-Min Seo and Seok-Hee Shim also easily passed the preliminary rounds for all events.
Shim Seok-hee, who entered the first competition following the ban was lifted, showed unshakable performance, setting a record of 2:21.850, the fastest among competitors in the 1,500m quarterfinals.
In the men’s division, while Lee Jun-seo and Kim Dong-wook passed the preliminary rounds for all events, Kwak Yoon-gi was disqualified following receiving a penalty for a false start in the first round of 500m.
Yoongi Kwak advanced to the 1,000m quarterfinals and 1,500m semifinals.
