Li Jie, the official poster designer for the Hangzhou Asian Games and the Asian Paralympic Games – designed the poster “Asian Games for the whole family”

In the past two days, in landmark urban places such as Hangzhou Civic Center, East Railway Station, and Hubin Pedestrian Street, you can always see posters full of Asian Games elements and distinctive designs. This is an ongoing one-month official poster design exhibition since the official poster of the Hangzhou Asian Games was released.

Li Jie, a teacher at the School of Design and Art, China Academy of Art, has two works selected this time. Among them, “Meeting in Hangzhou” takes the scenery of the West Lake as the main element, and expresses the charm of Hangzhou’s Jiangnan cultural water town through the coloring method of ink and wash, and reflects the unique elegance and humor of the East. “Good News” takes Feifei, the mascot of the Hangzhou Asian Paralympic Games as the main image, as the messenger of good news of happiness, to bring you the message: “Hangzhou 2022 Asian Paralympic Games is coming soon!”

At the Xiangshan campus of the China Academy of Art, the reporter met Li Jie. Wearing an off-white sweater and a cyan floral silk scarf, she stood in front of the two posters and spoke softly to reporters regarding the poster design concept. “Poster is a kind of graphic narrative carrier. Unlike other design projects, it needs to convey information in a short period of time. It requires firstly a clear theme and clear meaning, and secondly, the form should be simple and clear at a glance.” Li Jie pointed to “Meet in Hangzhou” tell reporters.

The poster takes the Su Causeway of the West Lake as the background, and the long embankment lies on the waves, connecting Nanshan and Beishan. At the same time, she framed the background in the words “HANGZHOU2022”, and the English of the competition category of the Hangzhou Asian Games is designed to appear on the water of the West Lake. ripples. Looking from a distance, the first layer of meaning conveyed by the poster is the text “Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games”. If you look closely, you will find the second layer of meaning to be conveyed, which is the image of the city of Hangzhou, West Lake, and then After careful observation, the meaning of the third layer has gradually become clear. The scattered Asian Games competitions symbolize the joy and friendly gathering of the Asian Games family.

Li Jie has his own considerations for choosing the West Lake as the background of the poster. She said: “All design projects related to the Hangzhou Asian Games are required to demonstrate ‘Chinese characteristics, Zhejiang style, Hangzhou charm, and splendidness’. Therefore, it is a very clear design idea for me to reflect regional characteristics in the poster design. It is one of the city images that can represent Hangzhou.”

Li Jie has been living and working in Hangzhou since she was admitted to the Middle School Attached to the Academy of Fine Arts from Anhui in 1995. “Ink painting Jiangnan is my initial impression of Hangzhou.” Li Jie said that she chose blue and green to represent Hangzhou, blue is Hangzhou’s tolerance and open-mindedness, and the green pool is the vitality and vitality of Hangzhou.

Turning to another poster “Good News”, its colors are more vivid and warm than the atmospheric freehand brushwork of “Meet in Hangzhou”. For this poster specially designed for the Hangzhou Asian Paralympic Games, Li Jie’s emotions are also more diversified, which stems from her other identity – the mascot designer of the Hangzhou Asian Paralympic Games.

The overall look of “Good News” is like “Feifei” holding a letter in his mouth, which is very playful and cute. “In the early stage of poster design, I thought of ‘Feifei’, the mascot of the Asian Paralympic Games.” Li Jie said, as the designer of “Feifei”, “Feifei” was like a dream of her own, so she was designing the poster. This element is used in the book, and I hope that through it, I can give the best wishes to everyone who has had a dream, pursued a dream, and guarded a dream.

It is worth mentioning that the image of “Feifei” drawn in graffiti in this poster is from Li Jie’s 11-year-old daughter. She told reporters that her daughter accidentally broke a bone while designing the poster. After getting into a wheelchair, her daughter had an emotional resonance with the sports shape of “Fei Fei” and the meaning contained in it, so she drew the image of “Fei Fei” on the side. . “Actually, I originally drew the sporty shape of ‘Feifei’, with smoother and more mature lines, but the child’s brushstrokes are simple and simple, so I finally chose to use her image.” Li Jie said with a smile, “Now If I talk regarding the ‘Asian Games for All’, then I am the ‘Asian Games for the whole family’, and this poster creation has made my family’s Asian Games atmosphere stronger.” In Li Jie’s view, poster design is a kind of self-expression for designers, conveying their own With her understanding and love for the Hangzhou Asian Games and the Asian Paralympic Games, she hopes that the concepts conveyed by these posters will resonate with more people through online and offline exhibitions.

Li Jie said: “The Hangzhou Asian Games and the Asian Paralympic Games are long-awaited sports and cultural events. I hope that Hangzhou, with its green mountains and green waters, can integrate the games into its own elegance and intelligence, so that everyone can be happy, Take it easy and enjoy the game.”
