NCsoft released a visual R&D video ‘CACCIA (hunting)’ on the 8th that shows its art capabilities.
This video was produced by the Visual Tech room in charge of NCsoft’s game cinematic video. Realized visuals such as skin that can even see the character’s fluff, texture as if crushing real oil paint, natural four-legged walking of a lion and fur with a living grain.
Set in Europe in the 15th and 16th centuries, the video depicts the inner struggle of the main character, Beatrix, struggling to escape from the stuffy reality. Beatrix, who was sitting as a model for a painting in front of a middle-aged painter, sees a picture of a lion hanging on the wall and falls into her imagination. In her imagination, she becomes a swordsman and fights her lion, and at the end of a breath-taking chase, she inserts a broken blade into the lion’s neck. She returns to her reality, and her video ends with an unknown smile.
According to NCsoft, 35 types of facial expressions were obtained by 3D scanning a real model in order to naturally realize the character’s emotional expression, and 142 morph targets were produced. After that, a wrinkle map (wrinkle map) was produced using three each of the ‘normal map’ and ‘diffuse map’, which can effectively express three-dimensionality and texture, and regarding 30 masks were used for wrinkles.
In addition to this, viscous objects such as paints, a painter’s beard or lion’s fur, and natural and realistic medieval costumes are realistically expressed.
NCsoft said, “The Visual Tech room will continue to focus on R&D for improved visuals. We want to show art.”
