Maersk, a Danish sea freight company, has announced the creation of Maersk Air Cargo to provide air cargo services. As reported in press release company, Denmark’s second largest airport (in Billund) will become the cargo hub of Maersk Air Cargo, from where cargo planes will operate daily.
The basis of the fleet of the new company are cargo aircraft, which previously belonged to Star Air, a division of Maersk. In connection with the creation of a new air cargo carrier, the assets of Star Air were transferred to Maersk Air Cargo, which will serve both existing customers and new ones.
The new company’s fleet includes 15 aircraft owned by Star Air, in addition, three leased Boeing 767-300s will be added in the near future, and by 2024 the company will receive two new Boeing 777Fs. Maersk Air Cargo is expected to start operating in full in the second half of this year. Maersk’s rival sea freight company CMA CGM also launched its air freight service earlier. She, unlike Maersk, uses Airbus aircraft.
