AUGUSTA, Ga. — A star-studded leaderboard and patron-filled course have the 2022 Masters already reaching a fever pitch as Round 2 action begins Friday. Sung-jae Im tops that board at 5 under following a stellar first 18 holes, but his lead is minuscule with Cameron Smith, former champions Danny Willett and Dustin Johnson, Joaquín Niemann and Scottie Scheffler among those nipping at his heels as the second day of action begins.
Still, it’s Tiger Woods who is drawing most of the air out of the atmosphere at Augusta National. Playing his first event in 17 months — and just 14 months removed from nearly losing his leg — Woods shot the most remarkable 71 in Masters history to sit T11 and just four shots back of Im. Tiger is not only likely to make the cut barring disaster Friday, he may well be in contention to win his sixth green jacket entering the weekend. All of it makes for a must-watch second round that should be thrilling from sunrise to sunset on Friday.
