Several patients have reported hearing loss and tinnitus following the injection of the Covid vaccine. A phenomenon reported by the World Health Organization. How many cases are identified? How serious are these cases?

37,529 cases worldwide

The WHO sends a signal to pharmaceutical companies on the link between vaccination and certain adverse effects. A “signal” is an unknown and undocumented relationship between a drug and an effect. The WHO has listed 37,529 cases of hearing loss or tinnitus worldwide. What remains a rare side effect given the 4.5 billion people vaccinated.

temporary hearing loss

“The most common reported symptoms were tinnitus, followed by headache, dizziness and nausea,” the WHO said in its report. Of the 37,529 reported cases, 31,644 experienced tinnitus. 1,290 cases relate to sudden hearing loss. Fortunately, this hearing loss was temporary.

Hearing loss and flu vaccine

According to the WHO, hearing loss is not only linked to the Covid-19 vaccine. A similar phenomenon was also observed during other vaccination campaigns such as that once morest the H1N1 flu. The reported cases were rare to very rare.

How to explain this link?

The WHO puts forward the hypothesis of a “mechanism of action involving the vestibulocochlear nerve“. This nerve is located inside the ear. It is responsible for both hearing and balance. This is why, in the event of an infringement, dizziness or nausea may be present.

Who is affected by these hearing losses?

People affected by hearing problems or tinnitus are “young adults in good health and without comorbidities”, specifies the WHO. Hearing disturbances occurred within minutes to hours following injecting their first dose of vaccine.
