The discovery, in March, of microplastics in human blood had already made it possible to show that these particles were able to travel in the body and lodge in the organs. In this study, which has been accepted for publication by the journal Science of the Total Environmentthe particles were found deep in the lungs.
“The lung airways are very narrow, so no one thought these particles could get this deep, but they clearly made it”declares in a press release Laura Sadofsky, from Hull York Medical School, UK, and lead author of the study.
