New York Mets place Jacob deGrom on 10-day disabled list

WASHINGTON — Jacob deGrom was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday with a stress reaction to his right shoulder blade as the New York Mets established their 28-player Opening Day active roster.

The two-time NL Cy Young Award winner was injured at the end of spring training and won’t pitch for regarding a month, meaning he’s probably out until at least June. Right-hander deGrom did not play in a game following July 7 of last season, when he was sidelined with a sprained elbow in his throwing arm.

Tylor Megill was assigned to start Game 1 by new Mets manager Buck Showalter scheduled for Thursday night when they visit the Washington Nationals.

In other Mets moves, left-hander Joey Lucchesi went on the 60-day disabled list while recovering from reconstructive elbow surgery, right-hander Jake Reed went on the 10-day disabled list with a muscle strain in the left side and lefty David Peterson was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse.

New York’s roster to start the season includes 14 pitchers, two catchers, seven infielders and five outfielders.
